Frequently Asked Questions

Hopefully these FAQ's will answer some of your many questions about OCD-UK. Please feel free to contact us should you still have further questions for us.

Why was OCD-UK established?

OCD-UK came about following discussions between several like minded OCD sufferers. They highlighted the lack of awareness of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders within the public domain despite similar organisations operating for a number of years.

With an estimated 3% of the UK population suffering from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders, demand suggested a need for an organisation such as OCD-UK to continue the momentum started by other charities in raising awareness and offering support and care to those affected by OCD, in particularly young adults.

How is OCD-UK different from other charities?

OCD-UK differs from other charities that deal with OCD in that we are uniquely the only charity entirely run by OCD sufferers for sufferers, which gives our executive committee a unique expert insight of what sufferers go through and what they require from us.

It is our hope that this unique approach will lead to a better relationship between the charity and its members, and that by utilising the vast array of skill sets that sufferers have and actively encouraging them to get involved with OCD-UK we hope the charity will go from strength to strength.

However, we recognise the need for medical supervision to link sufferers and professionals so we will be working closely with a medical advisory panel which contains expert professionals in the field of OCD.

We were also the first full time charity dedicated solely to OCD.

How is OCD-UK funded?

As a registered charity OCD-UK is a completely non-profit making organisation and we do not receive any government funding which means we rely on donations from members of the public, companies and trust funds in order to carry out its work and aims. Please help OCD-UK by making a donation today.

Is OCD-UK just for UK residents?

Not at all. Although we will of course be conducting our charitable work within the UK, we certainly welcome input and members from all over the globe. We hope that one day the blueprint for our charity will be used globally by other like minded organisations.

Our ambassador is in fact American and based in LA, however we are very fortunate to have the support of Dr Jeffrey Schwartz, one of the leading OCD experts in the world working to raise our profile outside of the UK.

Are you connected to OCD Action or the OCD Centre?

OCD-UK is a brand new dynamic charity and is neither connected to, nor affiliated with, nor a rebranding of either of these two organisations or any other OCD organisation or website.
