London to Paris - Jo and her Positive Cycle Challenge

Joanne Sharman looking ahead to cycling from London to Paris for OCD-UK

A positive cycle indeed, OCD-UK member, Joanne Sharman, also known our forum members as Northern Star is facing her fears all in aid of supporting OCD-UK by cycling 300 miles from London to Paris in just four days during September later this year.

Jo, in her own words told us "This is the first time I have ever done anything like this - there's nothing like throwing yourself in at the deep end, eh?!" She also went on to tell us why doing this is so important for her. "My own battle with OCD has been lengthy, since I was 15 years old, and it has had a huge impact on my life, including being hospitalised and having to leave my university course unfinished because I became so unwell that my life was in danger. OCD-UK gave me the support, advice and friendship (in fact, I met my husband through OCD-UK!) that I can honestly say saved my life when I was a teenager. Back then I never dared hope that one day I would be working full-time, married and about to cycle 300 miles in four days!"

It would be fantastic if you can sponsor Jo, it will give her so much encouragement when the going gets tough to know she as the support of others behind her through sponsorship. You can sponsor her through her Just Giving page here. Jo also told us this week that she was touched by the incredible generosity of strangers and non-strangers alike, already raising just under £1400, so lets help her hit £2000!

BUPA Great Manchester Run 2012 - Thank You Team OCD-UK Ladies

It's been a fantastic Summer for Team OCD-UK, and last weekend in Manchester we had an all female team of ladies running for OCD-UK taking part in the BUPA Great Mancheter Run, so a huge thank you to Angela, Claire, Faye, Jane, Lorna, Lucy, Mair and Sue that ran the 10k race around the streets of Manchester last weekend. Between them they have already raised over £1000, with more fundraising money still coming in. We thank you ladies, for your 10k and fundraising efforts on behalf of OCD-UK.

One of those running was Faye Allen, pictured below with her sister Grace. Faye was running in honour of her sister Grace, who in Faye's own words, is a long term sufferer of OCD. Faye later Tweeted "Completed the Manchester 10k in one hour, twenty-two minutes and four seconds today. Biggest achievement of my life so far" We are delighted to have been able to offer Faye the opportunity to run for her sister, and she did Grace proud on the day. You can help OCD-UK and Faye by sponsoring her for OCD-UK via her Just Giving page here.

London to Paris Cycle Challenge

Running not your thing? Well you can still fundraise for OCD-UK through a variety of means, one such way is a sponsored Cycle Ride and OCD-UK chief-executive Ashley Fulwood as put his money where is mouth is, literally, by signing up for the famous London to Paris cycling challenge, 300 miles, almost 500km in just 4 day during September!

"If attempting to use my bandy little legs to run for my charity was not enough, I have set myself a brand new target, and this year I am attempting to cycle from our cosmopolitan capital (well, Crystal Palace) to Paris, and the Eiffel Tower. Along the way as we cycle through the suburbs of the romantic capital I will get to soak up some of the Parisian way of life, who knows it may even help sophisticate me!   However, this little jaunt on my old two wheeled speed machine is no sedate cycle, this is 300 miles, almost 500km in just four days.

"I won't say OCD as totally ruined my life, but I will say that OCD as done its bloody best to try and ruin my life!  "
