2021 Virtual OCD-UK Conference - Welcome to Hotel OCD-UK, flying the flag for recovery!
Mobility, motion and movement seated session to ‘beat the seat'
Broadcast live on Sunday 28th November 2021
Presentation subject
Many of us spend hours seated whilst working, studying, shopping or using social media, without considering our posture, joints or muscles.
This session will lead you through a range of gentle movements to help you to relieve tension, improve posture and mobility and stretch tired and tight muscles in a seated position. We will focus upon all areas of the spine, the neck, shoulders, lower back, hips and areas of your glutes and also breathing to relax.
The key aims of the session are to provide you with a well earned gentle break with movements to leave you feeling refreshed, relaxed and refocused.
My name is Jeanette and I have been living with OCD and severe anxiety since the age of 11/12 years old. I was hospitalised aged 18 for a month in a mixed adult ward. I have been in a very long battle with OCD for most of my life, have experienced frustrations in trying to get the CBT I needed and still need, but have been blessed by getting treatment with the fantastic Prof Paul Salkovskis two years ago. I keep fighting day by day.
I completed my BSc (Hons) Sports Studies with Business Studies degree in 2002, continued to study at a Post Graduate level to obtain a PG Cert in Applied Sport and Exercise Science and then completed my PGCE In Physical Education in 2004. I have taught Physical Education for 16 years now, where I have been a head of department for nine of those years. I am also a qualified gym instructor, a first aid instructor and this summer I have qualified as a mental health first aid instructor, so I can run courses to qualify people and spread the accurate facts about mental health! I love the coast and spend as many weeks and weekends of the year as possible in north Devon, where I surf, kayak, run on the beach and walk around the beautiful coastlines! I have been horse-riding for over thirty years and playing netball for a very similar length of time! I also love dancing and art. I love dogs and they are such amazing therapy for me. I have a Golden Retriever who is a very cheeky monkey but who is always at my side when I need her.
OCD-UK have literally saved my life in the past and is always somewhere I know I can turn to. These sessions are hopefully a small way that I can give something very small back to the OCD community.
