Relapse Prevention: Top tips for keeping well after therapy has finished.

Broadcast live on Saturday 9th November 2024
Speaker

Dr Josie Millar, Clinical Psychologist, University of Bath.
The presentation will be facilitated by a member of the OCD-UK team.

Presentation subject

When our CBT for OCD therapy sessions come to an end, (and have been of some help) it may be tempting to think (or hope!) that we have reached our recovery destination! But recovery isn’t a straight line and could perhaps be better described as a journey.

In this talk, Josie will talk about a relapse prevention intervention for OCD, that she has co-produced in collaboration with people with personal experience of OCD. Josie will be talking about strategies that can be helpful to consider putting or keeping in place as well as what to look out for in keeping well after therapy.

About the speaker

Dr Josie Millar qualified as Clinical Psychologist from the University of Adelaide, Australia in 2006. During her clinical training and post qualification Josie developed a special interest in the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), in particular intensive treatments for OCD.

In 2010, Josie moved to the UK to work with Professor Paul Salkovskis, to further develop work on intensive treatments for OCD.  More recently Josie’s focus has been on developing a relapse prevention intervention specifically for OCD, using co-production. She is passionate about empowering people to further develop the tools they need to keep well after CBT that has been helpful.

Josie works clinically for the Oxford Health Specialist Psychological Intervention Centre (OHSPIC) where she provides CBT on an outreach basis to patients nationally.

Josie also works at the University of Bath, as a lecturer where she is involved in the training of Clinical psychologists and has developed a programme of research related to OCD.

Josie strongly believes in working with people to find a collaborative approach to overcoming their difficulties and reclaiming their life from OCD.
